Developing websites to be mobile device compatible is one of our areas of expertise. If the coding, structuring and sectioning is done right, a programmer doesn’t have to create two versions of your website for desktop and mobile users.
Hairy Dog Digital builds web sites to be refreshingly functional, pleasantly navigable, and to maintain a consistent appearance across multiple viewing devices like your computer, smartphone or tablet.
Making your website mobile friendly
Making a site that transitions seamlessly from desktop to mobile requires a thorough understanding of the specific architectural and navigational challenges related to each type of device (iPhone, iPad, Android, rocketship, etc.).

This is the approach our developers recommend:
- Elements (e.g., Facebook link) having “hover states” (which work fine on a desktop/laptop) need to auto-adjust in order to be functional in a mobile environment. Meaning, when using a smartphone or tablet, if a user has to mouseover a “hover state” element before clicking on it – it won’t work. Hairy Dog Digital codes each page element so if a user clicks on it, it opens. Simple and easy to use.
- Each page needs to load quickly. Sites bogged down with big images and messy programming code in the background will not perform well on mobile devices.
- Page elements should automatically rewrap or reformat with the flow of a smartphone’s screen dimensions. They should also instantly adapt when a user turns the device (from portrait to landscape orientation).
- The sides of a web page should not be lost when viewed on a mobile device, which would force users to pan left to right. On the flip side, a web page should not merely scale to fit to a device’s screen leaving the user with illegibly small text, links, and buttons.
As you can see, creating websites that look good and work well on tablets and smartphones means we have to think through every aspect of the user experience and ensure your website is reflecting your business values. Quality user experience for your site is a priority for Hairy Dog Digital’s developers.
