A web-based content management system (CMS) framework enables you and your staff to update and manage your website content as needed, 24/7 via a web-browser and Internet connection.
Integrating a CMS with your website
To streamline making edits and publishing new content, Hairy Dog Digital can build your site within a CMS framework (such as Joomla or Drupal).
A website with a built-in CMS framework enables you, or designated staff, to easily log into a web portal to make edits. This does require learning how to use the CMS system. However, Hairy Dog Digital can provide training for your in-house editor(s).
Benefits of an integrated CMS
The advantages of Hairy Dog Digital’s integrated content management system include:
- Makes it easy to keep content updated (which is important to keep visitors returning to your site).
- Simplifies the editing process (no need to hassle with frustrating offline editing software, or wait to have your changes be published).
- Maintains the integrity of your website design (so editors can ‘edit,’ but not alter the visual layout of your site).
A word of caution regarding desktop WYSIWYG editing applications
There is a so called third option to editing your web site using third-party desktop software (e.g., MS Expression Web, Adobe Dreamweaver, or older applications such as FrontPage or Contribute).
Hairy Dog Digital does not recommend managing content this way, unless you use an application supporting current web standards and are trained on the application.
It’s not that we don’t want to, but… Hairy Dog Digital cannot support your technical needs for the editing software (because any issues will be software-related). If you have problems, then you’ll be at the mercy of that software’s technical support line.
Further, using an out-of-date external application (such as FrontPage) for editing, adds out-of-date code to your site, which can affect formatting and to an extent, SEO rankings. Over time, the website can become unpredictable and you may eventually need to start from scratch to recreate a clean, working site.
